Review: Ikon Vodka
Ikon is a well-established Russian vodka that is finally starting to gain real popularity in
North America. First distilled in 1862, Ikon not only survived but thrived after the
Revolution and remains strong today. Turns out that this vodka is still craft-distilled in
Russia in the same town where the distillery was first founded.
Very clean nose with a hint of fresh pine needles. Silky smooth but bracing, crisp finish with just a touch of pepper. Wow! This is really good stuff. New favourite vodka. It’s as good as Grey Goose but at a wonderfully low price. Love it.

Christine Sismondo’s Gift Giving Guide in Gremolata Magazine Warms Up To Corner Creek Bourbon
Regarding bourbon, which was never well stocked in my province in the first place, I really don’t know what to tell you. It’s almost disappeared, but for an interesting recent addition: Corner Creek Reserve Bourbon ($46.95) from Bardstown, Kentucky. At 88 proof, it’s incredibly smooth and refined; gets the job done without being harsh. It’s a totally different style than most bourbons (indicated, in part, by it’s straw colour and odd burgundy bottle vessel) and, honestly, wouldn’t get a Pappy Van Winkle drinker to switch teams, but if mom likes a light colour, light body with a spicy, yet smooth flavour, this could be an interesting new treat

2 oz Ikon True Russian Vodka
1 oz Cherry Herring Liqueur
1 oz Ginger Ale
Fresh Cherries for Garnish
Chill Glass in Freezer. Pour Ikon True Russian Vodka and Cherry Liqueur into martini shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled. Pour into chilled martini glass until 2/3rds full. Top off with ginger ale. Drop in your fresh cherry.
Miami Iced Tea (served in a highball glass)
3 oz. Cuca Fresca Premium Cachaça
2 oz. sour mix
2 oz. Coca-cola
1 oz. orange juice
Pour all of the ingredients into a tall, ice-filled mixing glass. Cover and shake well. Pour, without straining, into a highball glass. Garnish with a lemon slice and straw.
